The one-eye-width rule, stated precisely
Eye spacing ratio (often written ES ratio) compares intercanthal distance — the gap between the two inner corners — against the width of a single eye. The familiar guidance that eyes should sit exactly one eye-width apart is a rough restatement of this. Spacing wider than that reads as hypertelorism, narrower as hypotelorism, and both are noticeable to observers well before they can name what they are seeing.
Dividing by the average of both eyes
MogTracker divides the intercanthal gap by the average of the two eye widths, so an asymmetric pair does not skew the result toward whichever eye happens to be larger. As a ratio of two distances measured in the same plane, it is scale-invariant — your distance from the camera does not affect it.
